Chigwell

The Ladies went off to Chigwell this Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend for the annual Fun in the Forest tournament run by the Old Loughtonians Hockey Club. Called 'The Brazilians', fifteen of us popped down the road for a weekend of fun and games and maybe a little hockey as well.

In terms of the hockey, we did rather well which was a bit of a surprise. After the first couple of games we were even starting to think we could maybe win it, but then we started drinking. Anyway, our results were as follows:

Saturday:
Game No 1: Win - no idea what the score was
Game No 2: Win - no idea what the score was
Game No 3: Can't remember as I'd had too many snakebites by then - loss?

Sunday:
Game No 4: Can't remember as just woke up and felt awful
Game No 5: Can't remember as was too ill to play
Game No 6: Semi final - loss

Socially, well… what can I say? Well done to the tour virgins who were roped together for a few hours on the Friday night (making going to the toilet amusing) plus forced to wear bibs and drink out of baby bottles. Be safe in the knowledge you will never be tour virgins again!

As a team, we won numerous games and competitions so great efforts there. We pushed the boat out for fancy dress, facial hair on the Friday night, Brazilian carnival theme on the Saturday night and cavewomen outfits on the Sunday night. Most completed their personal challenges though I still think mine was ridiculous… how would I ever convince anyone I am from the South?

There were some great teams there and the atmosphere was excellent. Who can forget the Germans (especially tall ones), the Pink Ladies and the Baywatch crew?

The weather could not have been worse if it tried and a few of us were practically swimming in our tents by the end of it, but everyone kept their spirits up and eagerly took part in all that was thrown at them. A great weekend was had and this was helped by what was a very well organised and great value for money tour by Old Loughts.

Bring on 2008.
