Norwich Union IV 2 Harleston Magpies VI 2

Union started brightly against an ever demanding and always unpredictable Magpies side. Union's passing was much improved over recent weeks and took an early lead from a short corner which was played to Alan Quinton who struck the ball across the keeper which went in the opposite corner. Magpies quickly re-grouped and ten minutes later had equalised, as the half drew to a close Magpies scored again on the very last minute of the half from a short corner. The second half saw Union equalise from Alan Quinton again, who kept his head and slotted the ball away during a tussle in the Magpies area. It was end to end stuff from then on and Union could have snatched the winner close to the end when Will Kirby collected a cross, beat the keeper, only to be denied by the oppositions defender who cleared the ball off the line.

Norwich Union IV 11 Thetford 1

After turning up with only 8 players, Thetford put on a gutsy display in a game which they where always going to struggle. As a result Union soon had scored and went into the break 3-0 up. The second half was a goal riot for Union and unfortunately conceded a goal from a fast through ball which, from some rare defending, gave away a penalty flick which Thetford converted. Despite the result, Unions passing was not the same as the previous week and with a break next week must improve this for their next game.

Bury IV 0 Norwich Union IV 2

Both sides started the game quite evenly with Bury looking the more likely to score with a better organised team for the first 20 minutes. Union started to string together clean passes and make attacks just before half-time. They stepped up a gear and carried this into the second half and were finally rewarded when Simon Garner scored from a short corner. 10 minutes later Union were on the attack again and building right up from their defence and 5 quick passes saw Alan Quinton cross the ball for Garner to turn his man and slot the ball away. Union continued to press forward and looking slightly fitter could have scored a third with some driving runs from Chris Harrison. Union have their season underway.

Norwich Union quickly countered with pressure on both wings with Josh Mylne scoring from a crowded D to level before the break. In the second half, Norwich Union looked the stronger side with greater composure. Ricky Powley's sliding tackles in midfield and penetration on the wings by Adie Kemp and Simon Parsons won Norwich Union a short corner which was struck cleanly by captain Rob Panter for the home side's second. A direct drive from half way by Josh Mylne, before passing the ball in the D to Alex Brown who secured Union's third goal with a well taken tap-in in front of goal.

Cambridge University 1 Norwich Union 3

In a game of huge significance at the bottom of the table, Norwich Union came out on top with some of their best hockey this season. The first half was fairly even, with both teams creating chances but both goalkeepers making good saves. The second half saw the University side take the lead. This kick-started a Union team who suddenly found themselves passing the ball confidently around, with player of the match, Becs Dungay, contributing effectively to this. Goals from Sally Small, Charlie Hemmant and Shelly Garrod, have put a 4 point gap between Union and Cambridge with two games to go.

Union must take heart from a solid performance, especially in the midfield from player of the match Lynne Price.

Norwich Union 0 Watton 0

In this first league match of 2006, a closely contested match resulted in points being shared. Both teams started the game brightly with chances being created at both ends. Player of the Match, Goal keeper Sam Jelliff was in great form in helping earn Union their first clean sheet of the season and a well earnt point. It was a positive start to the second half of the season for Union, who saw some inspiring individual performances and generally an excellent all round team performance to keep out a hard working and physical Watton side.
