BDO Hockey Mens World Cup at the Warsteiner Hockeypark



A number of club members have secured tickets for the other World Cup being held in Germany this summer. With tickets for the 3 days of 7-9 September we will get to see group stage matches of England, Netherlands, India, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, Spain, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Korea and Argentina.

Settling down for our first game. England and India. Anyone found that contact lens? Magpies old boy Richard Alexander. England on the attack. Premature celebration. Could go anywhere. But its a goal. Soon another short corner... ...results in a drag flick goal. India pull one back as this effort sneeks in. England applaud their supporters. Pakistan reverse shot. Bringing acrobatic save. Team Australia huddle. The Spanish arent to be outdone. Goal line melee which Spain clear. Australian efforts goes close between Gk and post! Eyes on the ball. He shoots.. ...they think its crossed the line... ...and celebrate only to discover the unpire hasnt allowed the goal! What me? Both defender and GK at full stretch to deny the Aussies. A picture of concentration. GK's position looks painful. Aussie drag flick. Winding up for reverse stick shot. Spanish defender ready to swipe clear. Score says it all. In the last dew minutes of the game SA get a short corner... ...and equalise... ...thus gaining their first point. Its all taking its toll on Ed. SA players applaud their supporters. German flags are much in evidence in the capacity crowd for the Germany vs. Holland game.. This grudge match is hotly contested. Germany force a save from a short corner. Taeke Taekema puts this drag flick just high and wide. Germans on the attack. We ran into Aussie defender Mark Knowles in the local Subway! (sandwich shop not mode of transport) Australians kept Argentina continually under pressure. As now seems the case with any NUHC tour we frequented the local Argentinean steak house! Charlie, Lawrence, Ed and Ashton hit the local clubs. Rubbing shoulders with the South African management team Garnett and his bloody bang sticks! Using thehighly efficient German public transport. Breakfast for those who missed it at the hotel. Loads of those bloody bang sticks! Pakistan support was ever visible.. SA captain and team members .study their next opponent; England. Agreeably this does look dodgy! No idea who Ed has latched on to. Charlie will have her time cut out with Mr Tumnus. Another night, another club. SA's barmy army! The Dutch supporters home from home. They even brought a brass band... ..which was positioned right behind us! The Japanese were all very polite.... ...as you can see. Bruce joins us for a drink on our last night.
